Donald L Trapp, originally of Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on May 25th, 2023 in Sun City, AZ. Donald was born in Peoria, IL on August 21, 1929 to Mary Trapp and raised by Ray and Mary Trapp.Don met the love of his life Shirley Palik-Trapp and was happily married for 62 years until Shirley’s passing last February. Don served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in a variety of locations including Hawaii and Okinawa. As a Draftsman in the military, Don supported the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and completed design work on the F-111 Aircraft. Following his career in the military, Don continued working as a Draftsman. One significant change that he made for his family was to relocate from Australia to California. This move included living on a small farm and he quickly embodied the lifestyle and began raising chickens, pigs and milk cows for the family.Don enjoyed a variety of sports activities including bowling, lawn bowling and bocce ball. He participated in the Senior Olympics for Lawn Bowling and bowled a perfect 300 game in bowling as well! Don enjoyed card games, whether it was card games in Las Vegas or Laughlin, cards with friends and family, or playing Cribbage with the local cribbage group. He was competitive and did not like losing. Don also got great enjoyment with embarrassing his kids, and he never seemed to run out of ideas. He was the “OG” of embarrassing dads.Don was also a lifetime artisan. He has created beautiful ceramic art, latch hook wall hangings, Christmas décor and ornaments, rhinestone garments, and leather belts and wallets. He also used his handi-work to create tools, storage racks and shelving, and a variety of other items for daily use.Don will be missed by his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his five children Kevin, Sandra, Sharon, Susan and Sylvia, 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

Rosalia Mansfeld passed away peacefully in Surprise, Arizona on May 24th, 2023. She was born in Terrasini, Sicily on March 4th, 1944. Her and her husband, Hans, both worked for Sun Health. They both loved to travel but she especially loved cooking Sunday brunch for her family. She was a very loving, caring, spiritual, and beautiful person inside and out. The sadness that her family and friends feel due to her passing is immense, but we are assured that she is resting comfortably in God's hands. A private celebration of her life will be held at Menke Funeral and Cremation center.
David L. Harmer of Sun City passed away on May 24, one month shy of his 97th birthday. A loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, David was the personification of “a life well lived.” He loved his family, loved to tell stories that captivated his audience, and most of all, loved life.David was the second of four sons, born on June 23, 1926 to Charles and Audrey (Kennemuth) Harmer of Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was raised.In 1942 at the age of 16, David enlisted in the Butler Guard and in 1944 the Pennsylvania State Guard. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On August 17, 1945, David was stationed on Ie Shima Island when the Japanese emissaries landed on their way to surrender negotiations in the Philippines.He was discharged from the army in 1947 and enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard later that year. In 1950 David was called to active duty during the Korean War and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. David was discharged from active duty in 1951, and again enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard, where he served until 1961.David married Margaret Kathryn Stroop of Lloydsville, Pennsylvania, on April 26, 1947. They celebrated 60 wedding anniversaries together. David and Margaret had four children – a son and three daughters.Western Pennsylvania was their home for the majority of David’s career. He spent 30 years at Mellon Stuart Company, rising from timekeeper to chief estimator. He retired from Mellon Stuart in 1980 as Senior Vice President.In 1980, David and Margaret moved west, settling in the Valley of the Sun, where David worked as an estimator for several construction companies: M.M. Sundt, TBI, Chanen, Grammar, and Kohl before retiring in 1987.An avid outdoorsman, David enjoyed hunting and cherished his time with his hunting buddies. Additionally, he was an NRA certified instructor and taught hunter safety classes to area youth for more than 20 years. David shot competitively, earning the distinction of Individual M-1 Rifle Champion from the 28th Infantry Division in 1959.Preceding David in death were his father Charles, mother Audrey, brothers Alfred, Wayne, and Rolland, and grandson Kevin Oblack. His wife Margaret passed in 2008. David leaves behind his son Larry (Jan) Harmer, and daughters Gay (Paul-D) Oblack, Carol (Scott) Donaldson, and Linda (Joseph) Trovato. He is also survived by grandchildren Lani (Aaron) Vanderlip, Carrie (Loren) Cochran, David (Stephanie) Donaldson, and Kathryn Donaldson; as well as great grandchildren Tyler Cochran, Austin Cochran, and Kai Vanderlip.David will be lovingly missed by all who knew him.

Richard E. Malkowski, 88, passed away on May 22, 2023 in the comfort of his home in Sun City, AZ, surrounded by his loving wife and children.Richard was born on March 3, 1935, the only child of Edward and Ruth Malkowski in Chicago, IL. A graduate of The University of Illinois with a major in Geology, Richard later secured a job with Dow Corning Corporation, where he worked as a sales representative for over 30 years. In 1964, he met the love of his life, Betse Voss, with whom he wed on July 3, 1965 and remained happily married to for almost 58 years.After retiring, Richard pursued antique dealing full-time, which was one of his favorite pastimes and a passion he shared with his wife. For several years, he and his wife traveled from Illinois to Arizona during the winter months, until they made Arizona their permanent home in 2015.Richard was an intellectual who was passionate about the pursuit of knowledge and could often be found reading and collecting books. Throughout his life, some of his other interests included bowling, listening to classical music, writing poetry, vacationing with friends and family, solving word puzzles, playing bridge, and engaging in weekly game nights. The overall highlight of his life was spending time with his wife and family, who described him as being a loveable, witty, charming, gentle, kind-hearted soul.Anyone who met Richard could feel immediately at ease in his presence due to his good-natured disposition and wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather and will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betse (Voss) Malkowski, and his six children, Christine Malkowski, Paul (Rena) Malkowski, Jennifer (Jay) Haydock, Denise (Jamie) Hotchkiss, Ryn Ue, and Kat Malkowski, and his eight grandchildren: Kyle, Briana, Leah, Jake, Justin, Aderyn, Lexi, and Halina.Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 4-8 pm at Menke Funeral Home. There will be a funeral mass on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Seton, with the burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Patricia (Pat) Ann Kraut (McMullan), 81, of Sun City, AZ, passed away on May 17, 2023, from complications of a chronic illness.
Pat was born on September 16, 1941, to Peter and Anastasia (O’Brien) McMullan in Winthrop, Massachusetts. After graduating from Winthrop High School, she went on to Salem State College where she obtained a teaching degree in Junior High Math and Science, and she taught briefly after graduating.
She met the love of her life, perhaps her soulmate, Ernest A. Kraut in the summer of 1960. They were married on October 12,1962 and they had three children, Maryann, Phillip, and Peter. She supported Ernie in both his military and later civilian career. As her children became older, she would work and teach in the various locations that his careers took them and she would also volunteer and help with activities that her children were in, like Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and bowling.
Pat and Ernie spent many years traveling, when they could, to several countries and many different states as well. She loved to tell the stories of what they did and saw and who they met along the way.
In retirement they moved to Surprise, Arizona, and then to Royal Oaks Lifecare Community in Sun City. She spent her time enjoying various activities in those communities and volunteering in both as well. She was blessed with many friends who were like family to her.
Pat was predeceased by her parents Peter and Anastasia McMullan along with Ernie’s parents (Rudie and Myrtle Kraut), his sister (Barbara Andrews), her brother-in-law Richard Lowe and two nephews, Anthony Kraut and Brian Andrews. She is survived by her husband Ernie, daughter Maryann Krutsick (Joe), son Phillip (Ika), son Peter (Lesli) and sister Eileen Lowe. She is also survived by seven grandchildren Amanda Krutsick, Andrew Kraut, Katherine Krutsick, Rachel Kraut, Daniel Krutsick, Evelyn Kraut, and Alexander Kraut. She also leaves behind multiple nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on June 5, 2023, at St Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Sun City. Interment will follow at 12:30 PM at National Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
June (Locatelli, Narr) Way, 82Passed away peacefully on May 15th, 2023, at her home in Sun City, AZ.She is preceded in death by her Husband Robert Way and her parents, Ralph Locatelli and Verda Resch as well as her Stepfather Dale Resch and her Sister Judy Byars.She is survived by her two children, Michael Narr and Carol Narr Kelling, her three grandchildren, Jerica Narr, Jeffrey and Hannah Kelling. Two great grandchildren, Sophia and Georgia Narr, two siblings, Kevin and Susan Resch, and two Step grandchildren, Keegan Way and Danielle DeVries, two nieces, Judy Dale Cain and Jamie Tinner and a nephew, Toby Byars.June was an active member of the Bellevue Heights Church in Sun City, AZ. She will be remembered for her overwhelming generosity and the unconditional love she had for all her friends and family, and for her unwavering faith in the Holy Spirit.A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bellevue Heights Church, in Sun City, AZ on Aug. 5th, 2023, at 1PM.
Walter Philip McMartin Jr, 86, passed away on May 12, 2023.Walter was born on November 11, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Walter Philip McMartin, Sr, and Marion Molly (Sugarman) McMartin. He was the second of four children with three sisters: Gloria (McMartin) Rector, Marilyn (McMartin) Ascher, and Margaret Carolyn McMartin. His early years were spent in Minneapolis where he attended public school and graduated from Edison High in 1954.After serving in the US Air Force in South Korea, he was transferred to Valdosta, GA. There he met his wife and soulmate of over 61 years, Mary Anne (Pennington) McMartin. Together they were blessed with 3 wonderful children: Marion Lee (McMartin) Goins, David Alan McMartin, and Katherine Louise (McMartin) Renton.Walt was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Sun City, serving as a Deacon, church representative to Habitat for Humanity and other programs. He was also a member of Masons and Scottish Rite in Peoria and Sun City. It was through this that, for over 8 years, he organized and led a school program in Peoria called “Bikes for Books” encouraging children of all grade levels to read more books and have the opportunity to win one of a number of new bicycles given away by his Masonic Lodge several times per school year.Walt had numerous hobbies, one of which was woodworking (Rocking Horses, rocking chair, grandfather clock, and furniture.) A second hobby or sport, of which he never tired… was Sporting Clay competition, which involved Trap and Skeet shooting of clay discs. He was awarded a Gold Medal in the Senior Olympics in Trap shooting competition in Arizona.He had a rich life, through a loving family, a trust in his Lord, a long and happy marriage, 3 beautiful children, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He enjoyed a career in aerospace, retiring from Rocket Research (Olin Corporation) and moving to Arizona for his retirement years in 1998. Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter McMartin Sr and Marion (Sugarman) McMartin; his sister, Gloria (McMartin) Rector; and his beloved daughter Marion Lee (McMartin) Goins. He is survived in his immediate family by his wife, Mary (Pennington) McMartin; son, David A McMartin; and youngest daughter, Katherine L (McMartin) Renton (Steven). Additional survivors include son-in-law Ronald Goins (spouse of deceased daughter, Marion) 5 granddaughters: Katherine L (Goins) Bautista (Juan); Kimberly G Renton; Krysta A Renton; Rachel E (Goins) Mead (James); and Shelby L Renton; 6 great grandchildren: Kiana S Renton Davis; Evelyn R Mead; Oliver H Bautista; Madison A Mead; Mackenzie J Mead; and Elinor L Bautista.He will be lovingly missed by all.
