Rosemary Kathleen McMillen passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2023, in Sun City, Arizona.Rosemary was born on June 30, 1932, in Edina, Missouri, the third of five children to Vern C. and Mary (Rose) Goodwin. She grew up in Edina and attended Catholic grade and high school. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1950.Rosemary married her high school sweetheart Gene McMillen on January 24, 1953, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri. Shortly after they were married Gene left for Korea and Rosemary attended Kirksville Teacher’s College where she earned her teaching credential. Rosemary taught at various schools throughout Iowa and Arizona before settling in Blythe, California until her retirement. When in Blythe, she is most fondly remembered as a Reading Teacher at Ruth Brown Elementary. She really enjoyed this time in her career because she was able to teach kids how to become a better reader. Soon thereafter, Gene and Rosemary moved to Sun City, Arizona where she enjoyed her sewing club where they sewed items for families of Luke Air Force Base. When visiting her she always had a little container of candy for your drive home or hid gas money in your car! Her grandkids and great grandkids enjoyed the many $2 bills they received from Grandma Rosie and Papa Gene for their birthdays!Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Gene (November 21, 2018), daughter Barbara Ziber (October 14, 2014) of El Cajon, California as well as sisters Margie Branham and Dorothy Kauffmann, brother Frances Goodwin, mother Mary Goodwin, and father Vern C. Goodwin. As well as son-in-law Dale Hasha and Herschel LyonRosemary is survived by five daughters, Becky McMillen of Sun City, Arizona; Mary Jeanne Brown (Greg) of Vista, California, Tish Thompson (Willard) of Milliken, Colorado, Lisa Bradford, (Roy) of Phelan, California, Theresa Hartman (Wendell) of Scottsville, Kentucky, sons Robb McMillen of Brush Prairie, Washington and Chris of Buckeye, Arizona  She is also survived by sister Verna Marie Dabney of Glendale Arizona, sister in-law Betty Hamilton (Gene) of Urbandale, Iowa.Rosemary is survived by sixteen grandchildren Jonathan Howard (Ginny), Katie Wells (Nate), Megan Curan (Michael), Michael Lyon (Louise), Jeremy Bradford (Lisa), Joseph Bradford (Natalie), Elizabeth Howeth (Bill), Joey and Andy Ziber, Brianna, Danielle Dieter (Keaton), Clinton Baker (Cailee), Robbie and Derrick McMillen, and Cheyenne McMillen. She also is survived by twenty great-grandchildren – Elizabeth, Abraham, Samuel, Kailyn, Maleah, Axel, Judah, Madison, Hunter, Vivian,   Joshua, Justin, Juliette, Jace, Josie, Blakely, Harry, Jack, Annemarie and Rhett and three great-great grandchildren, Leslie, Christie and Carter.Services will be held, Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Joachim and St. Ann Catholic Church in Sun City, Arizona. Interment at 2:30 pm at National Memorial Ceremony of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona. Alice Mae (Belter) May September 29, 1925 – October 28, 2023    Long time Arizona resident, Alice May, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Trail Ridge Senior Care, in Sun City West. She was 98 years old.    Alice was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from St. Vincent De Paul Elementary, and St. Joseph Academy High School. While her desire was to join the convent, the Lord had a very different road for her.    Alice was born with a love of music, and an incredible soprano singing voice. Her first solo was with a Christmas choir at the age of 8 years old. She began singing opera along with her father's albums by Caruso, dreaming of the operatic stage in her future. While she did not achieve that dream, she did sing in many different venues, to include opportunities with her ladies group called the Bluettes, and a solo of Pontias Angelicus in St. Patrick Cathedral at Notre Dame University. Alice would go on to be an accomplished secretary/bookkeeper for a number of companies.    On November 3, 1951, Alice married William (Bill) Oren May. During the almost 50 years of marriage, they traveled extensively for Bill's electrical work, often relocating several times in one year. No matter where the jobs took him, the family stayed together. In their later years, Bill and Alice would settle in Yuma, Arizona, then to their final home in Glendale next to their daughter.    Through the years of moving, Alice continued to sing, whether in churches or other gatherings. After Bill's passing, she remained in Arizona. She was a long time member of Grace Bible Church in Sun City, participating in choir and women's activities.    She is survived by daughter Virginia (Ginny) and son-in-law James Clark, daughter Elizabeth (Betty) and son-in-law Charles Thornton, grandsons Joshua and Justin Morrell, and Benjamin Amaral, granddaughter Kathleen (Katie) Talley, and great grandsons Tristen and Ashton Morrell.    She is proceeded in death by her husband Bill May in 2001, and daughter Catherine (Cathy) May in 2005.    Services will be held at Grace Bible Church, 19280 North 99th Ave, Sun City, Arizona 85373-1401 on November 8, 2023. Viewing is scheduled for 1:30pm with services to follow at 2:00pm. There will be no graveside service. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Cave Creek Rd in Phoenix.    In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to Grace Bible Church. Menke Funeral and Cremation Center will be handling all of the arrangements.

Brian Jeffrey Behling, 72, passed away October 26, 2023, after suffering from complications from Covid-19 despite being fully vaccinated, in Sun City, AZ. He was born on April 10, 1951, in Port Washington, WI. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Laurie, and his cousins G. Zirbes, W. Dross, and H. Dross. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Doris, and his brothers Donald and Bruce. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones. Brian attended Ann Arbor High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from ASU and an MBA from UCLA. His career began in 1984 after completing his MBA, working for several years at TRW Aerospace in Los Angeles. In 1988, Brian and Laurie moved to Albuquerque, NM, and he began working at Sandia National Laboratories. After a 20-year career at Sandia, he retired in 2008. Outside of his professional life, Brian had a passion for motorcycles, especially MotoTrials. The friendships he developed in the NM and national MotoTrials communities have remained strong throughout his life. He was always ready for new adventures, whether he and Laurie enjoying dual-sport moto trips or he and his friends on “boys’ vacations” in the Southwest USA and Baja Mexico. He enjoyed travel whether at home or abroad. His enthusiasm for sports showed in his devoted support through thick and thin of the Detroit Lions and cheering on the AZ Diamondbacks. Growing up in Ann Arbor MI, Brian held a deep loyalty for U of M football – Go Blue!   A Celebration of Brian's life will be held on November 8, 2023, from noon to 2 pm at the Menke Sun City Room in Sun City, AZ. Also, a reception will be held at Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort New Mexico in summer 2024, date tbd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Rheumatology Research Foundation. 

Clifford Marshall Cowles Jr., 95 of Peoria AZ, formerly of Wallingford CT died Tuesday October 24, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. Clifford was born in New Haven, CT August 30, 1928, the son of late Clifford and Alice Cowles Sr.  Clifford attended Choate Prep School and then went to Yale University graduating with a degree in economics. He served in the Navy as a communications specialist and was later promoted to Lieutenant Commander during the Korean War. On June 20, 1950, Clifford married Harriet Lane also from Wallingford, CT and had four children.  Clifford was employed by International Silver Company and was an active member of the Wallingford Taxpayers Association until moving to Decatur, Illinois where he was employed by Revere Ware Copper & Brass Company. He retired to Sun City, AZ in 1988 where he resided for 33 years. His retirement years were spent traveling the country and abroad participating in several theater and musical groups which allowed him to play his beloved piano. Clifford is survived by his four children Patricia Edwards (Glen), Barbara O’Neal (Ed), Jeffery Cowles, and Debra Wright, his 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and his sister, Shirley Cowles McChesney of Sun Lakes, AZ, and her family of 20.   There will be a gravesite military service at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford, CT on November 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM.

Earl R. Smith passed away peacefully on October 23rd, 2023 after a full and adventurous life. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Theodore (Ted) and Mary (Schieble) Smith on March 13, 1930, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.He graduated from York High School in Elmhurst, where he met his future wife, Althea Rautenberg, in 1948. He was a star athlete, excelling in baseball, basketball and track as well as being a decorated Scout. Earl attended Illinois-Navy Pier and then transferred to the University of Illinois in Champaign where he received both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Engineering. Earl and Thea were married on November 29, 1952 in Elmhurst, Illinois and celebrated their 70th anniversary last year. After finishing his Master’s work, Earl was conscripted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Toledo, OH for two years during the Korean Conflict. Upon being discharged, Earl went to work for The Dow Chemical Company and his 35-year career took them to Midland (MI), The Netherlands, Texas, Chile, Brazil and California. Post-career, he offered his engineering expertise to small, start-up firms in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Egypt and The Republic of Georgia, on a pro bono basis.Earl and Thea retired in Arizona, where he continued to play softball & golf into his late 80s. His sole   hole-in-one came at the young age of 87, six months after his Cubs won the World Series. When not travelling, Earl enjoyed having projects to do around the house and experimented with woodworking, jewelry- and clock-making and working with stained glass along with photography. To escape the heat, they summered in Michigan where he also enjoyed boating and other lake activities.Survivors include: a sister, Marilu Anderson of Mauston, WI; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Beth Smith of South Carolina; and a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Kurt Faust of Michigan.  He has five grandchildren: Ashley Smith of Missouri; Christian Smith of South Carolina; Daniel (Chessie) Smith of Kentucky; Alex (Ally) Faust of Michigan; and Andrea (Alex) DeVries of Michigan. In addition, he has four great-grandchildren: Mac & Cam Faust; and Evelyn and Eddie DeVries.His beloved Thea predeceased Earl by 76 days  He was also predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Smith, as well as his mother-in-law, father-.in-law and sisters-in-law, Peggy (Ray) Speth and Lois (Bill) Matheson and their husbands.A Memorial Service for both Earl & Thea will be held on Friday, November 10th at 10AM MST in The Church at Litchfield Park, AZ. The event will be “live-streamed” at this link: https://www.youtube.com/@clpmemorials25/streams In lieu of flowers, donations in Earl’s memory can be sent to: West Valley SymphonyP.O. James “Jimmy” Victor Zito passed away on October 18,​2023, at the age of 76, in his hometown of Sun City, Arizona. Jimmy was born to Joseph and Mary Zito on May 29, 1947, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Gene Zito.An extremely proud father and grandfather, he is survived by son, Brian Zito; daughter, Lisa Gardner (Adam); his “one and only” granddaughter, Emma Gardner, who called him“ Papa;” sister, Terri Steffen (David); niece, Sierra Lovegrove (Spencer); many cousins, a special one being Stanley Warren.A friend to all, Jimmy made everyone laugh with his winning personality. He always enjoyed a good joke. He never met a stranger and leaves many friends and family who will miss him deeply.He served in the Navy on the nuclear submarine, the U.S.S. Will Rogers. Jim retired from Southwest Airlines. His favorite “job” was as a PGA teaching, coaching, and club pro, having been an avid golfer since childhood.Jimmy will be honored in a brief ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.Memorial with Navy Honors starts at 11am. 23029 North Cave Creek RdPhoenix, AZ 85024-Entrance is on Pinnacle Peak stay on main road into cemetery and look for large marquee to confirm shelter location for ZITOFollowed by a celebration of lifeGoelet A Beuf Community Center Outdoor Ramada 12-2pm3435 W. Eugene Harmeling sadly passed away on October 17, 2023, at home with family. Gene was born on January 14, 1938 to Alois and Anna Harmeling on a farm in Ward Springs, Minnesota. Gene was 85 years old at the time of his passing. He was the last living sibling of a family of 8 children. Gene and his wife, Harriet, of 61 years, raised two boys Tom and Keith, their four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gene served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. He worked as a Utilities construction Supervisor most of his career. Gene loved hunting, fishing, family, friends, God and country. Gene and Harriet loved to travel and retired to Sun City, AZ. Memorial Services will be held in Sauk Center MN, and burial in Little Sauk MN in the Spring of 2024.

Clarence A. Popp died peacefully at home on October 14, 2023 in Sun City, AZ at the age of 94. Clarence is survived by his; wife, Patricia Popp (Kalchik); children, Michael (Cornelia), Theresa (Steven) Dunn, David (Shelley), Timothy (Elizabeth) and Steven; siblings, Geraldine (Gerald) Miller, John (Diane), Dorothy (David, deceased) Lamb, James (Francis, deceased), Christine (Robert) Wagley. He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Loretta (Reicha), his brother Raymond (Diana) and his sister Mary Lou (John) Bumgardner.Clarence was born on May 30, 1929 in Northport, MI. He completed an eighth-grade education before apprenticing as a carpenter, the trade he practiced for the rest of his life. He married Patricia, a teacher, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Gills Pier, MI, in 1957. After moving to Traverse City, MI, Clarence continued working for Comstock Construction as a superintendent. Over 65 years, the couple welcomed their five children, six grandchildren (Claren, Haley, Sara, Dustin, Logan and Lena) and five great grandchildren (Chloe, Tyler, Caylum, Lincoln and Natalie) into their life. As a father, grandfather and great grandfather, Clarence is remembered as always having a baby on his arm and a grin on his face.Clarence, an accomplished builder, was a self-made man remembered for his ever-ready smile, wisdom, advice and guidance. In his 46 years with Comstock Construction, he shaped the face of northern lower Michigan with the building of numerous homes, hotels, churches and businesses. Having grown up on a farm he always enjoyed gardening and self-sufficiency. He was an active and dedicated member of St. Francis and St. Patrick’s Catholic churches of Traverse City, MI and even supervised their construction.A gathering is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Sun City, AZ, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Clarence’s life. Dennis Robert DeVault, 82, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023.  Born on July 11, 1941, in Abilene, Texas, he was raised in Tucson, Arizona where he attended Tucson High School and graduated from the University of Arizona. In 1959, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Mahan until 1962 when he was honorably discharged and enlisted into the Reserves. Dennis spent his later years making the most of life with his partner Sandee Holiday. They lived and loved fully, enjoying adventures and travels together. He is preceded in death by his parents, Muriel Dorothy DeVault (Sutherland) and Robert Martin DeVault; as well as brother Bruce Martin DeVault. He is survived by his children, Kimberly Jo DeVault, 54, and Brian Douglas DeVault, 51.  Dennis enjoyed genealogy, crossword puzzles, reading, dancing, pickleball, golf, bowling, and karaoke with friends. Elizabeth Joan Shiber, 90, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away on September 24, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, AZ.Joan, who was born in Akron, Ohio, lived in East Brunswick, New Jersey, for most of her life. She moved to Sun City, Arizona, after the death of her husband, Whitey, in 2006. Joan worked 25 years in retail, most notably at Sears, where she managed the fabrics and notions department, then later moved to manage the accounting department. She retired from Xerox after an 18-plus-year career in administration. Joan said the best boss she ever worked with was at Xerox; his name is Rich Barton.Joan was an avid needlewoman. She could knit, crochet, sew, smock, cross stitch and embroider, but her passion was quilting. While living in New Jersey, she and her boon companions traveled the country, attending quilt shows large and small, taking classes and learning new techniques. Joan was a member of more than one quilt guild in the state and made many, many precious life-long friends. Along the way, Joan collected fabric, lots and lots of fabric. After she moved to Arizona, Joan met another precious group of quilting friends; together, the women explored local quilt shops, attended classes and organized their own quilting get-togethers. Joan gifted many people items made from her stash of fabrics.Joan was an active member of Life in Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria, Arizona, as well as was a long-time active member of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in New Jersey. As a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Joan held many leadership roles in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at both local and state levels in New Jersey. She was well versed in church polity and graciously shared her knowledge at her new church home in Arizona.Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Charles (“Whitey”) Shiber; as well as two daughters, Linda (Neil) Cavalier and Cindy (Michael) Biddle. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Michael) Sneden and Lori (Denis) Scanlon; as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Joan is also survived by her beloved brother, Chester (Shirley) Hampton and a host of nephews and nieces and their families with whom she made great memories.Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 beginning at 11 a.m. at Life in Christ Lutheran Church, 14802 N. 75th Ave., Peoria, AZ 85381. Joan’s final resting place will be beside Whitey in the Dunmyer Cemetery in Salix, PA. Mary Lou Reisenbigler, 92, of Surprise, Arizona. It is with tremendous sadness that we announce Mary Lou’s passing on September 24, 2023. She leaves behind her two children, Chris (Cyndi) and Tracie (Doug), three grandchildren, CJ (Kayla), Daniel (Alexx), and Makayla; and six great-grandsons: Gaige, Kellan, Bentley, Luca, Asher, and Lincoln, as well as her brother Robert (Roberta) and her niece, Simone.  She will be forever missed by her family and friends for her love, friendship, kindness, loyalty, and courageous spirit in the face of adversity. After the loss of her beloved husband of 60 years (Charles) in 2011, Mary Lou found renewed joy and purpose in volunteering at Peoria Elementary School. In her many years there, she became the friend and grandmother that many who crossed her path never knew they needed. One of her biggest joys, aside from travelling however, was being a Grandma and a Gigi. Her ”Littles”, as she called her great-grandsons, had an instant playmate and cuddler whenever they saw her. She delighted in the time she got to spend with them, and was often found playing with stuffed animals, reading books, watering her flowers with any number of helpers, or trying not to laugh at their antics and failing miserably.  She may have been small in stature but leaves behind a gigantic hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. 

Jacqueline (Ann) Thacker, 97, of Sun City passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023, under the care of The Gardens of Sun City Assisted Living and Hospice of the West. Ann was born to Chester Dean Graham and Vivian Marie Dison-Patterson, April 3, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio. She married Dallas Thacker on February 14, 1950. They celebrated 49 yrs. of marriage before Dallas’ passing on August 29, 1999. Ann was a charter member of Calvary United Methodist church, Phoenix, AZ where she served on many committees, taught Sunday school and was a charter member of the U.M. Women. She later became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sun City, AZ after moving to Sun City. Ann raised 3 children, Roger, Carolyn and Dallas Dean. Ann worked for Spring City Knitting, Glendale, AZ for 19 years. She was an exceptional seamstress that enjoyed sewing for all her family members (immediate and extended) along with friends and various organizations. She was passionate about her religion and enjoyed giving to and helping others. Ann also served as a volunteer for 16 years at Boswell Hospital. She is survived by sister, Jean Marie Graham, Kingman, AZ, daughter, Carolyn Ann Linde-Jelinek of Sun City, AZ and son Dallas Dean Thacker of Clearwater, FL, grandchildren Joshua Linde, Jessica Thacker and Rebekah Lacer. 4 great grandchildren Alexander, Kaiden, Alek Kai and Aden. Xavier Mario Diaz, age 31, passed away on September 17, 2023. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend, mentor, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Xavier was born on June 17, 1992, in Phoenix, where he spent all his years.  Xavier loved to watch sports and loved to help people, because of this he became a mentor for many at his job doing outreach to his local community at the Phoenix Rescue Mission. He would share his testimony to anybody who would listen and was proud of his sobriety and his path to finding Christ. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. He would spend most of his time either at church or reading his bible and was a big believer in Christ.  More than anything, Xavier was a devoted Son, Brother, Uncle (Tio), and boyfriend. He was an amazing son. He would call his father, Mario Diaz, nearly every day just to talk and catch up on current sporting events and talk about their lives and how their day is going. He was always there for his sister, Gina, whenever she needed him. He was a man who never said no. He always found a way to help with anything if someone needed it. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, sharing stories, playing games, and watching their favorite TV shows. He would spontaneously show up and offer to take them out to have fun. He would take them to the zoo, bowling, the movies, sporting events, and even birthday parties. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.In his free time, Xavier enjoyed spending time with his girlfriend, Maria, they would go to sporting events together, go fishing, and go out to eat. Xavier was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He was an active member of his community, volunteering for various causes and organizations. Xavier is survived by his Father, Mario; Sisters, Iris, Carmen, Diana, Lillian, and Gina; and his brother, Felix. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd avenue, Sun City AZ 85351, on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m., provided by Redemption Arcadia Church where Xavier loved attending. A reception will follow the service for anyone who wishes to stay and continue sharing memories of Xavier. The services will be casual attire. For those who really knew Xavier know he was full of happiness and joy and we want to try and honor that during this difficult time by not making this about sorrows, but joy for all the lives he has touched and the impact he has made on everyone he knew.

Romilda Vail passed away on September 16, 2023 at the age of 96. She worked at a Secretary to the Department of Defense for many years.She leaves behind her nieces, Nancy Miller of San Antonio, Texas, Jeanette Lewis of West Virginia, and Jonell Nelson of Austin, Texas; nephews, Bill Vail of Colorado, Keith Robert Vail of San Antonio, Texas and Marion Dean (Sandi) Kershew of Sherman, Texas; as well as may great and double great nieces and nephews.Romilda is preceded in death by her sister, Olivetti Shelton; and brothers, Carl Joseph, Jr, Robert Keith.She was laid to rest at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, Arizona.
